I have been coming to this little cafe/restaurant for 15 years! (The first time I was 14 years old.) It hasn't changed much in all that time and that is what I love about this place. It doesn't need to.
The menu is simple and has everything you would want to eat from a quick lunch to lovely specials you can enjoy in the evening.
I have eaten in a LOT of different restaurants all over the world. I have eaten fine dining which is nice for a treat, but I always keep coming back here because the food is heavenly. HUGE portions are served for a very reasonable price. The food is real rustic, tasty home cooking and you can never go wrong. Even a bowl of soup is served in a big pot with big hunks of fresh bread.
You will find me here most weekends enjoying a big veggie breakfast (served till 4pm) with a pot of tea with the Sunday papers.
THIS IS MY FAVOURITE PLACE TO EAT EVER!
The decor is charming and quaint and a pleasure to eat in. True, the owner is a man of few words and can look a little miserable at times, but I think thats just his personality! Also there is an (oldish) man who is a long time worker there whos personality is eccentric to say the least and some people could take him the wrong way! However, this doesn't distract from the amazing huge portions of tasty rustic food served and the very reasonable prices.
I will be coming here for many years to come!

I would like to comment on the food but can't as we never got to taste it. We sat at our table for twenty minutes and not even a drink was offered to us let alone our order taken. To add insult to injury, as we decided to leave, the waitress thanked us as we walked out!!!! No, thank you, we won't be coming back or recommending the place.
over priced, not enough staff.

Enjoyed a meal at Saints & Scholars last night. Easy going and relaxed atmosphere. Impressed with the huge portions. Everything was very tasty. Our waitress was extremely helpful. We left very satisfied and will definately return.

Thought we would drop into this quaint looking pub for some food and a few drinks before our party headed back home. Sadly we left after 45 minutes when we had tolerated enough off the ill manners of the owner. He strumped around like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders and looked down on everyone that came in unless they were regulars. It wasn't until my husband opened his wallet to pay for a large round of drinks that the owner lifted the corner of his mouth in what appeared to have been a half-hearted attempt to smile, until he realised his face would crack if he did. Needless to say we left after paying for the less than tasteful food, which we did not finish and without leaving a tip because the staff were clearly following the example of their leader.

Had the worst meal of my life at Saints and Scholars last night. Rude staff, rude chef and cold food sums it up. When we dared to mention the cold chicken fajitas, the worlds most miserable waitress said it had cooled down "because it had sat wating while they cooked the other dish". Oh well, that explains it then! The restaurant staff then stared agressively and huffed about until we paid the overpriced bill and left. Don't go, its absolutely awful, hopelessly trapped in the 80's and the food is cold and inedible. Shame as they used to do good breakfasts.

This place is incredible. I lived just up the road and always made an effort to pop in. The staff are very accommodating, sometimes setting up a table where they can to squeeze you in for a small intimate meal. Their chicken fajitas are to die for.
