I went with a group of my friends and we were not allowed to eat unless we paid first we were the only people in the restaurant asked to do this. Food is ok but the attitude if the staff is rude and arrogant.

I've eaten here several times and I've always enjoyed the food, and the drinks are generally cheap. Every time I go they seem to have added something new to the menu.

However, today I went with friends, and one of our party wasn't eating, but he was charged for a buffet that he didn't eat, and was made to pay before being allowed to leave the premises.

The management pointed to a sign that said people will be charged if they sit at a table regardless of if they eat or not, which is written in small writing in the middle of a flurry of other information, making it hard to see.

While I really do like the food here, I feel that I should point out a few other things diners may not know in addition to the frankly appallingly rude manager:

- The toilets are disgusting, with non functioning locks and a sickening smell

- They don't bring the duck with pancakes and hoi sin sauce out until 6.30pm, which is not indicated on entry

- The ice cream machine is often broken

- Did I mention the management are rude?

No.1 Oriental Buffet: Come for the food, stay for the sanitation issues!

been to number 1s a few times now and love it!. The first time i went was with my family and there was plenty of choice even for the young children aged 3 and 5. the staff are very helpful and polite and the service was very good. the food was the best we have had so far from any chinese buffet. also great value for money at only 5.50 per person lunch time and children at half our entire part (4 adults and 2 children) ate for £36 and that included the drinks. have also been on a saturday night with my husband and the grand buffet was 9.50 per person but still great value for money as myself and my husband had a meal out for under 25 quid. over all i would highly refcommend number 1s for family and couples, a great place to eat.

we have been to number 1 several times the food is good the choice for vegatarians isnt that bad.The staff have always been great i suppose we all have bad days and if you r nice to them then i am sure you will be treated fairly. Yes I agree that the toilets do need a revamp but thy have always been clean when we have been. The food area is always clean too,our food has always been hot,yes I have seen people having to pay up front but that is down to managment and the amount of runners or non payers they probably have.Good value cheep meal plenty of choice we will go again and again and again.

Will somebody from Manchester City Council PLEASE pay a visit to this restaurant's toilets and ORDER the owner to completely replace them? I have seen cleaner toilets in railway stations in Eastern Europe.

Food is ok, but if you go outside of the busiest times (4-8) the food will invariably be lukewarm. There needs to be more vegetarian options too, and the policy of making CERTAIN people pay up-front is scandalous. Either everyone should pay on entry OR on departure!! What is this restaurant's game? Staff are efficient at clearing away the plates and the food area is pretty clean. Atmosphere is good if the restaurant is full (as it usually is). Overall, it's ok for the money, but don't expect miracles. You will get your moneys worth, most people gorge themselves on several plates of starters, mains and polish off with cake, fruit or ice-cream. I had the tuna sweetcorn salad one time and the tuna was sour. The worst shock comes when you visit the loos - I hope the staff pay more attention to the cleanliness in the kitchens. They seem more concerned with making sure the till is stuffed with 10 and 20 pound notes than with the loos, which are disgusting!

This is an very good chineese buffet restaurant, i regularly attend this buffet and i am always pleased with the atmoshphere and the staff. The food is excellent and i dont nowmally like chineese food, but this is alot of variety on offer so 9 times out of 10 you are sure to find something you will like. Also the meals are very cheap per person. So all in all this is a very good buffet, the only one thing i think that needs a huge imrovement is the the toilets.

This is a standard chinese buffet. If you want as much as you can eat cheap food then yes, thats what you'll get. However if eating out is more of an experience for you i wouldn't reccomend this place. The canteen style seating area is crammed and people are always walking past. I ventured into the toilets and had to come out without using them they were so dirty.

Our party of 5 arrived (12 inch plates in hand) at this establishment at 8 o'clock last friday night and it was absolutely perfect for our requirements (except for 1 member of the group who doesn't eat chinese because he doesn't think it gets cooked properly.)

In and out in 45 minutes, 3 plates of crispy duck, salt&pepper chicken wings and prawn toast and bottled beer on 3 for 2! all for the very reasonable price of £8.50 per head.

What a way to start a night out. A textbook chinese buffet!

I was one of a group of more than 12 persons decided to dine at this restaurant. I arrived earlier with my wife and 4 years son so I asked the staff for a small table till they arrange for a one for us all (as they said that it wouldn't be available before half an hour). they refused however to let us sit before the place is ready for the whole group!! there was no waiting area and we were ordered to stand behind some sign just next to the main door! when I tried to disagree as waiting for half an hour in the out area where it's cold (next to an open door) and there's no place to sit would be very distressing, the staff girl talking to me became very rude. I asked for the owner of the place but told that he's not there. then asked to speak to the manager, the same girl told me that she's the manager!! I was appauled by the unreasonable roles and the staff rudeness.later on was pressured by my freinds go in with them after I left the place angrily.

The service is way below average as they've got this bizarre system of paying in advance: You should be seated whilst you inform the waitress about the number of people eating in then you must follow her to the bar area to pay and order for drinks!! The food is generally good in variety but the the quality is just average at the best. The setting and atmosphere is simply awfull. very poor facilities and dirty toiletts. It was a very unpleasant experience. my basic mistake was listening to naive friends rather than the previous reviews.
