No.1 Oriental Buffet Restaurant

I went with a group of around 10 friends (all teenagers, for a birthday meal) so I can understand why we had to pay upfront. One of my friends wasn't eating and was not asked to pay, however another time I have been people have had to pay wether they were eating or not. I enjoy the food but the layout is very cramped therefore very prone to spillages. They staff are very rude and ignorant, I could understand when it was a group of giggling teens but I have been with my family and they were still VERY rude. I love the food too much to not go back but the staff completely ignore me and would put me off going there if i wasn't such an addict!! I think the seating arrangements are a bit irritating also, because I have a very young brother who was having trouble carrying food because of all the chairs. However some of the staff can be nice and it is an overall enjoying evening haveing a meal there. My biggest suggestion is that they have mushrooms in black bean sauce! It's my favourite.

Food is fine but you have to pay up front, and it's a real pain having to pay again each time you want another drink . Good value at £8.50 though.

Great value and a wide selection of food. Most dishes are very tasty, with good choice for vegetarians. On the downside, the tables are a bit like 'school dinner' tables with no tablecloths and an old fashioned formica finish. I have eaten here several times, and have to say that the staff are not very approachable or friendly, also there are lots of tiny flies constantly flying around. I think the management need to invest in a couple of insectocutors. All that said, it's still a busy and enjoyable restaurant.

Food was ok; nothing special. Service, what service? I did notice a sign say there is a minimum charge of £3 for wasting food.
It was like being at school, the food was greasy and poor quality. If you want a real Chinese go to Wings it's the best place in town.

went to this restaurant with all my sisters and baby daughter... there was six of us all together and were looking forward to spending some time together over a nice meal... the waitress that sat us down was rude and miserable, she didnt seem happy that we had a pram as it took a bit of space (naturally... as i couldn't let my 2month old baby walk, i obviously needed a pram)... she interrupted us and was very rude when asking what drinks we wanted to order... none of the other waitresses smiled or acted friendly... they began to speak about us at the till in chinese saying bad things, they did not think i understood but as my husband was half chinese, i knew the language quite well..
the food was OK, but we will never go there again and neither will anyone we know, simply because when you go to a restaurant you expect to pay for the food as well as the service... in this case, the food was good but the service was appaling...
NEVER AGAIN..

I told the owner to prep up on the sanitation's in the Manchester branch of No1 Buffet. And had a talk with the management about attitude problems. No.1 buffet is 1 of the best places to eat. i recommend that to everyone. Providing a healthy happy environment, to satisfy our customers is our goal. We take feed backs and complains.

I went with a group of my friends and we were not allowed to eat unless we paid first we were the only people in the restaurant asked to do this. Food is ok but the attitude if the staff is rude and arrogant.

I've eaten here several times and I've always enjoyed the food, and the drinks are generally cheap. Every time I go they seem to have added something new to the menu.
However, today I went with friends, and one of our party wasn't eating, but he was charged for a buffet that he didn't eat, and was made to pay before being allowed to leave the premises.
The management pointed to a sign that said people will be charged if they sit at a table regardless of if they eat or not, which is written in small writing in the middle of a flurry of other information, making it hard to see.
While I really do like the food here, I feel that I should point out a few other things diners may not know in addition to the frankly appallingly rude manager:
- The toilets are disgusting, with non functioning locks and a sickening smell
- They don't bring the duck with pancakes and hoi sin sauce out until 6.30pm, which is not indicated on entry
- The ice cream machine is often broken
- Did I mention the management are rude?
No.1 Oriental Buffet: Come for the food, stay for the sanitation issues!

been to number 1s a few times now and love it!. The first time i went was with my family and there was plenty of choice even for the young children aged 3 and 5. the staff are very helpful and polite and the service was very good. the food was the best we have had so far from any chinese buffet. also great value for money at only 5.50 per person lunch time and children at half our entire part (4 adults and 2 children) ate for £36 and that included the drinks. have also been on a saturday night with my husband and the grand buffet was 9.50 per person but still great value for money as myself and my husband had a meal out for under 25 quid. over all i would highly refcommend number 1s for family and couples, a great place to eat.
