Dragged two of my housemates along for a meal after reading that this place was very good, convincing them that this should be better than the curry mile. Became really worried that I had overhyped the place and was going to be disappointed.

Not at all. The food was exquisit the prices were reasonable.

You know it will be good when the popadoms are delicately spiced. the curries we had were not just "meat in soup" but appeared quite different in both taste and texture.

This is definitely a place I will be visiting again.

Great place, great food! First time I went was in 1990. Still one of my favourite places for indian cuisine.

I have been going to the Great Kathmandu almost since birth and it has always been well perfect, in all honesty it puts the curry mile to shame. The food is always done to perfection, the meat is always tender, the nan soft and the curry itself overwhelmingly tasty. The service may be slow at times but are almost always friendly, i guarentee you will leave fully satisfied

it's without doubt the best curry I've ever eaten, and it came in a foil box. No bits-of-meat-in-thick-soup experience, this was the real deal - beautifully cooked, moist, flaky meat (had to be from the tandoor), wonderful chargrilled capsicums, brilliantly complex sauce with tastes that went on forever. I even called them up to thank them afterwards, to which they responded in the slightly bemused way people do when called up and patronised by drunks.

I suspect the chef may have taken a holiday when JB went last time cause the food and service were spot on as ever. seen some up and down reviews for this place but all my experiences have been up up up!

If you want a surefire great evening out, don't pick this place! It's a hit and miss experience, sometimes staff are friendly, others times grumpy and inattentive. The food can be exquisite or plain old cold and tasteless. Complaints won't get you far or ensure you have a better evening! Many people come here as its in trendy Didsbury, but the reputation of the area doesn't guarantee good food.

As a regular at The Kathmandu I would like to say that the food is the best in Manchester. It is nothing less than an institution! The service and the decor might not be the best but that's part of the charm! Embrace it as if you were in Nepal and enjoy!!!

Well what can I say after the food last week i was skeptical to go again but a friend roped me in to it and I can say that everything was spot on this time. I decided to give the chickpeas a miss and went for the Tandoori Chicken Karhi. What a wonderful dish. Lets hope the keep this up.

I have no idea why this place has such a good reputation. Despite the place being more than half empty the service was slow, surly and slapdash, and my main meal, when it eventually arrived, consisted entirely of tinned chickpeas stirred into a can of Patak's pickle accompanied by undercooked rice.

went to the restaurant a couple of weeks ago and as ive come to expect from the great kathmandu the food was excellent the service was ok not as bad as some of the other reviews suggest (however maybe ive only been on quiet nights - not sure?)The decor is a bit shabby and tables are often too close together. In all i strongly reccommend it, in fact i am goin back this week
