Rice Bowl

I went here last Saturday for a friends birthday and i will certainly be going again! The food is fantastic and the service staff couldn't have done any more for us. We didn't have to wait too long between the starter and main but they didn't just bring it out just after finishing the starter (most places do).
The restaurant has a great atmosphere and is really relaxed and is perfect for a couple wanting a romantic night! Certainly value for money as the portions are HUGE!

i stumbled across the Rice bowl by accident when looking for a place to eat to celebrate my birthday mid september 2009 and was blown away by the quality for money and the taste of all the cusine served here, I've dined at chinese places all over the country and this ranks amongst the highest
I disagree with the two negative reviews from 2008 stating this place as greasy and insepid, how you could ever think that is beyond me, you must have very very high standards or have no taste buds at all, Everone is entitiled to an opinion and yes people have different tastes and standards but i consider myself a good critic when it comes to food and i know when something tastes lovely and of high quality and if it was too greasy i wouldnt eat it,
the service was friendly and efficent , and extremly fast, plus the portions exceeded expectations as did the bill at the end of the night,
there are many chinese choices in manchester, most are in the chinese quarter and i'd say only one other there is on the par of the rice bowl but try it for yourself
this is a big resturant and was nearly full at 6pm on a thursday night, that says something about how good it is,

Came across The Rice Bowl whilst walking around Manchester. Food was lovely, possibly the best Chinese we have eaten in the UK. Staff very friendly. We had a buffet, loads of freshly cooked, very hot food. Ended up taking a doggy bag home! Did not feel rushed with the courses, unlike some other restaurants. Would def recommend it. Will be visiting this restaurant again.

We have been to the Rice Bowl several times and have always found it to be an exceptional dining experience. The atmosphere is calm and friendly, the food varied and delicious, the staff helpful and attentive, what better way to spend an evening. We have taken friends and family who have all found it to be a truly enjoyable event.

Went last Saturday - busy early on- but we reserved a table for about 20 mins later and went to an interesting pub - the Chop House (I think) across the road for a drink. The Rice Bowl was wonderful- excellent food and service. The price was very reasonable. Small inside, most tables seemed to be for groups with only a few for couples. Had one of the more expensive set meals -which we couldn't really fault. My only thing was that the ribs were dry- very little sauce. The special rice was amazing.I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys chinese food.

I WOULD be put off by the review below, as I agree with it. I've eaten in almost all the Manchester Chinese restaurants, and the Rice Bowl ranks very near the bottom. I defy you to find a single dish as good there as good as any one of 50 dishes at the nearby Hong Kong restaurant, or Pacific, or......I could go on for quite a while. Tastes differ, of course, but I can't imagine anyone ranking this place highly. In a word: insipid.

Possibly the best Chinese meal I've eaten! DO NOT LET THE ONE NEGATIVE REVIEW PUT YOU OFF. I nearly did and if I had, I'd have missed out!
Service EXCELLENT
Food EXCELLENT
Price EXTREMELY REASONABLE CONSIDERING THE QUALITY
Chinese food is my favourite and I've eaten at hundreds of different restaurants, as has my friend who joined me. We both agreed, the best ever!

I'm sorry, but this place is TERRIBLE. We love Chinese food and make a point of going out for it twice a week. We try one new place a week, and have now tried almost all of the city centre Chinese places in Manchester.
Based on the reviews below we tried the rice bowl. Gloppy, sloppy, "Chinese food" designed for Brits. It has little or no resemblance to real Chinese. It doesn't taste authentic......or good.
