Dilli Indian Restaurant

On 30/08/08 myself and a friend were booked for a meal at 18:00 at the Dilli restaurant, we chose them having read the reviews on their web site and seen that they had several awards. Not unreasonably our expectations are quite high.
On entering the restaurant we were impressed by the smart layout and general apperance. However on stating that we had booked a table we were seated next to the only other customers and already felt distinctly rushed.
The member of staff who served us was eastern european and spoke and understood little English. He was obviously good natured but it made ordering so awkward that he had to get one of the indian staff to take over.
The menu was the major let down of the evening, myself and my friend have been to many indian restaurants and seen many menu's but none so unfathomable as this. All the usual favourite dishes were missing, no onion baji's, madras's, vindaloo's, jalfrezi's, korma's or balti's. The list continues. We ended up having to get them to try and match up what we wanted with what they provided on they're limited menu.
We ended up with a bastardised form of a normal indian meal which I must add was found very lacking in quality and quantity. The curry was bland and the rice undercooked. I find it amazing that such a restraunt with such awards could be so dissapointing.
We ended up leaving feeling that what should have been a treat was a dire dissapointment. Needless to say we shall not be returning.

This was one of the best REAL INDIAN MEAL myslef and my family enjoyed. My uncle is a vegetarian and he was very pleased with the authentic vegetarian rice and starters he had in the restaurant. Chicken tikka was excellent and the best mussels i have tasted.

we went on 6th april 08 after reading mixed reviews of the restaurant we had heard of this restaurant before but didnot hadd chance to vist this place.we were booked for 8people to dine at 9 PM.when we reached place was very busy,we were been told to wait for 5-10 mins as manager told us to wait so that he can get our table ready,he was very polite and to us to bar were we ordered our drinks, when we seated we order the food ,we had mixed menu one was from there festival menu and from there regular menu, when the starter came we all enjoyed they were tasty and different ,specialy prawn and chicken tikka.
our maincourse came 15 mins later.we all enjoyed our main meals,we were bening looked after well by the manager and staff. we will recommend to all our family and friends. we really had good time at dilli.the starter, mains and wine slection really very good.

The food was probably ok, but the service ruined the entire experience, and didn’t allow us to fully appreciate it. It was a great shame as the menu looks quite exciting compared to your normal Indian.
As a relaxing/enjoyable night out I would not recommend it. I don’t think it is good value for money (due to the service) as we spent £50 for 2 people. They also add a ‘service charge’ to the bill which is ironic in my opinion.
We won’t be returning unfortunately……

Time scale for meal at Dilli Saturday 29th March 2008: booked in for a table at 9.30pm. Turned up at 9.32pm. Table not ready for us. Had to stand in the draft of the door whilst bearing down on dinners sat right next to us while a table was prepared for us: 5 mins. Shown to our table and given menus - time taken to hang up our own coats: 3 mins - no one offered despite there being numerous waiting staff standing around. Time taken to brush down my own chair (even though the table was meant to have been prepared for us): 1 minute. Time taken from being seated to even a drink order being taken: 20 minutes. Time for starter and main course: 45 minutes (rushed to say the least). Main courses cleared at 10.35. Sat there without further attention. Told at 11.15pm that the bar was closing and we could order coffee's. Asked to see the dessert menu at this point as no one had offered it to us, told we couldn't have a dessert. Bill came with a 10% 'discretionary' service charge which we didn't want to pay. Waiter got really huffy with us when we asked for this to be taken off the bill. Real shame about the very poor service - I've had better in MacDonald's - as the food was decent enough, good mixed kebab starter. This is the second time we have tried this restaurant. First time we were less than impressed with the service also - this second time was worse. We won't be going back.
