The Famous Sam's Chophouse
your comments review this restaurant
I have been to Sam's several times and, luckily for me, unlike some of the other reviews on here I've always had really, really good service. I like the atmosphere and the decor, it's one of the few city centre pubs/restaurants that isn't competely full of pretentious staff and customers alike (although there's always one or two - to be expected I suppose).
Overall I have enjoyed the food I have had from here, although the onion soup I had on one occasion was so salty I couldn't eat it. We took some older relatives here and they really enjoyed it and commented on how delicious the food was. Overall I think Sam's is a good fail-safe option if you're planning a meal for several people as there is something for everyone. It can be pricey but no more so than other city centre establishments I have been to.

Reasonable food at VERY unreasonable prices. How can they justify over £16 for a roast beef dinner that would leave the average guy still hungry. Over £10 for fish and chips! The food is not bad, but that's as far as it goes, certainly nothing special, and the extortionate prices means that I, for one, will not be hurrying back.

I visited sam's becuase I'd heard good things from my mates. I certainly wasn't dissappointed.
The food was the sort of stuff my mum used to make. It was all freshly cooked with good local ingredients. And the portions were amazing. Too big for my mum though!
The staff were dead friendly. Professional but not snobby.
And the best bit was the atmosphere. This is a place for a proper night out on a Saturday.

Disappointing. We had to return a starter - after it was brought out with the accompaniments we had asked to be removed, and then the pastry was inedible; and two puddings because they were stale! Mains were varied - from very poor to outstanding. There is too much interference from the pub. However, staff were friendly and very quick indeed to remove charges from our bill. Are they used to this?

Well, where do I start.Sams Chop House is one of the finest examples of great British cuisine in the land and the food, beer, wine and service were impeccable.Id heard an awful lot of hype about Sams, and when i went i wasnt to be let down. The meal i had was cooked to perfection,no real waiting time at all,the service was great and all in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Since the meal i had with friends,I have returned their on a Friday night, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Two pubs for the price of one.
Sams in a one off and i hope they dont become a victim of their own success.Kepp up the good work!!

A Gem in the City Centre.
This is one of very few pub left in the City that boast good food, wine and beer with a great atmosphere.
Our visit on Wednesday evening was most enjoyable, the food was great, the wine superb and the atmosphere even better.
The bar was very busy and the restaurant full but not overcrowded. We had a lovely evening and I can't wait to come back in the new year.

Awful !!
After my girlfriend and I were seated for food by one of the waiting staff, we promptly ordered our drinks.
Whilst waiting for the drinks the most ill mannered man informed us in no uncertain terms that “you can’t sit there, the table is reserved !!”.
We advised him that we had not just sat there but had been seated by one of the staff, he didn’t seem to care and asked us to leave.
I appreciate staff may make mistakes and we had no problems leaving but there is a way to do this, after all it was not our fault.
We will not be returning and the chap needs to take some customer service lessons.

Visited on a Friday night. Sam's were offering a free bottle of wine as part of a promotion with my employer. Unfortunately, the waitress knew nothing about the promotion - bad start. The food however was excellent and we enjoyed our night. The restaurant and especially the wine is over-priced and with only the one set of toilets, your meal is often interrupted by inebriated revellers from the adjoining bar.
