Having arrived in Manchester early enough to have a sitdown meal before going to a show at the Palace theatre my family and I thought we would dine at the Cocotoo restaurant. We were taken to our table and placed an order for 4 starters and main courses. Three of our starters were brought to the table and after about 5 minutes we called the waiter over to ask where the final starter was. We then waited a further 20 minutes before the last starter was brought to the table. At no point was any apology made for the oversight. Meantime we watched several other diners arrive order and eat their meals. Very conscious that the time was ticking on we started to get a little agitated that now three quarters of an hour later we are still waiting for our main course. 20 minutes before the start of the show our main courses arrived. My 2 sons had ordered steak and the waiter arrived with their dishes which he placed infront of each of them. On one of the plates there were shallots and on the other none on noticing this the waiter asked my one son to give his brother some of his shallots of his plate. We were all so speechless that nothing was said and then to add insult to injury the sidedishes of vegetables arrived at the table 5 minutes later. We proceeded to eat our food as quick as possible in order to leave the restaurant in time to see the beginning of the show. We could not fault the food (if we had had the time to eat it and not gIobble it down) . I would have to say that this was the worst service I have ever received in any restaurant. If mistakes are made an apology goes a long way. What should have been a leisurely enjoyable meal before a show turned out to be a nightmare. If only I had had more time I would have certainly complained on the night but my time was too precious so I paid as quick as I could and left. I will not make the mistake of assuming an hour and a three quarters is sufficient time to eat two courses. We do not live in the Manchester area so it is not viable for me to put my comments to the staff personally.

We have been going to cocotoos infrequently over the past 15 years ( only due to lack of babysitters) and it has always been good. Last night was superb, with a great risotto, fab friendly service, fine for the kids and granny, lovely surroundings. Well done for consistency!

I ate at this restaurant on the evening of Saturday 1st December. It was very very busy and it would have been beneficial to have had more wait staff on. However, the food was great and the singer was fantastic. My family and I really soaked up the atmosphere. Would definitely go back.

We visited this restaurant to celebrate my nephew's 18th birthday. As a family gathering there was a wide range of ages of children but they were made to feel welcome. Sarah Dawson with whom we made the booking greeted us with a friendly smile and she herself was very attentive in a busy restaurant. The food was freshly made and most enjoyable. As an out of town visitor I would recommend eating here. Only one minor thing need more waiters/waitresses to serve tables.
