Albert's Shed

As regular visitor of Dukes and Albert's Shed, I was looking forward to celebrating my birthday, with my parents at Alberts Shed on Saturday evening.
We arrived early to have drinks at Dukes before our reservation at 9pm. I know the weekend crowd at Dukes is not as formal as during the week, and many people had obviously been drinking there all day (outside was rammed) . The place was heaving with wedding parties and Hen nights (lots of pink cowboy hats)!. As the front of house commented, we named it, they had it that evening.
We were greeted well and even waited with a drink in the restaurant for a table (booked for 9pm). We were seated around 9.15pm after refusing a large table at the back of the restaurant. Our waiter did seem OK. However we knew as soon as our £18 bottle of wine arrived, was opened, then just left on the table, without offering us to taste, we had a feeling the evening wasn't going to be as good as usual. Our food arrived on time, however the lamb shanks were cold and tough. My special of chicken wrapped in parma ham was over-cooked and the risotto had obviously not been tasted, someone in the kitchen was possibly looking at their watch when they added the salt. Our waiter did ask if I wanted another option as he believed the replacement risotto could taste the same as it came in a big pot (!). However the replacement risotto tasted good!
I am not sure whether Albert's Shed was so busy they couldn't cope, or they are now so complacent they don't care about the standard of food they serve.
I have never written a review, but felt so completely let down by the experience that I would not visit the restautant again during the weekend. Alberts Shed - you have really disappointed us.

I went to Albert's Shed for an early Sat evening meal, while visiting my hometown the other week and really enjoyed it. Being able to park right outside is good. The service was excellent as was the food. Non pretentious atmosphere and decor, although it was quite early, - exceptionally comfy seating and overall a very pleasing experience.

First visit to this restaurant.
Service was excellent, staff attentive, always with a smile. They were helpful and knowledgable about the food.
Atmosphere was busy without being overbearing. Relaxing to talk.
The menu is interesting and there were several items that tempted me and my partner.
The food was well presented and tasty. My selection (steak) was done just to my liking. My partners lamb wasn't falling off the bone as preferred, but nontheless enjoyable.
The chocolate pot with creme fraiche for afters (that we shared) was excellent.
Will return.

Arrived 5.10pm Sunday afternoon. Rudely told not open until 5.30, we could sit down but weren't allowed menus! Seated 7 of us round tiny table despite it being virtually empty and were then ignored. Left without ordering and will not go back!
