This pub's location is perhaps not the most picturesque (on a busy main road), but don't let that put you off.

Inside, it has a traditional feel, with classic dark wooden furniture. The menu is classic home-cooked pub fare: pies, steaks, and roasts. There's also a decent selection of sandwiches and fish. We've eaten here a number of times and all of the dishes have been excellent, but special mentions go to the steak and kidney pie, roast beef, and steak sandwich.

Service is excellent. We visited on a busy lunchtime, and despite their being just one waitress covering the dining area, orders were dispatched quickly and accurately. Main meals are around £8-10, for very large portions.

Children are well catered for, with a children's menu including sausage and mash, or mini roast of the day, with a great selection of veg. Highchairs are available and staff are very welcoming to families.

Highly recommended.
