The Grill on the Alley

I ordered the rib eye steak, medium rare. Appalled at the steak which arrived - so thinly cut I would call it a minute steak, only fit for a sandwich. It was oily and tasteless. I complained and the cost of my meal was deducted. Good service, poor food.

Decent but not great food. I've had worse, but there are much better meals within a three minute walk.....San Carlo or Resaurant Bar and Grill, for example.

There are much worse places to eat than The Grill on the Alley, but there are also much better ones. Not surprisingly, I am giving it "5s" across the board.

The 6 oysters were fresh.

I ordered 11oz rib eye, asked for it rare, advised by the waiter it would be raw if i asked for that, so i reluctantly went for medium rare. The steak arrived medium, so i sent it back. The waiter brought another which was seared on the outside and raw throughout (bleu). Fortunately i like this, but my preference is rare not very rare. Its pathetic that a grill restaurant cant do a steak somewhere between very rare and medium. The 2 pieces i was presented with were cut thin from a large rib, not very good for cooking to preference. Frankly my local tesco sells better rib eyes. And it was totally unseasoned. I did that myself.

The whole grilled lobster was very poor, no meat in the claws (surely the best bit of a lobster). This is usually a result of being kept too long after catching, it lives off its own body weight a long time. The waiter said the lobsters are never kept in their tank more than 3 days. Maybe it was hanging aroung somewhere else then.

Good job i was with great company and place itself has a really nice atmosphere.

The food was very good - excellently cooked steak and the veg were steamed nicely rather than boiled to within an inch of their life - although being charged for additional sides puts the cost up. Waiting staff were friendly and knew what they were talking about which makes a change. Would recommend.

Went for lunch on a quiet monday.

Everything was superb.

Our waiter was friendly and attentive.

Oysters fresh and delicious.

Everything was spot on. Beautiful looking venue, clean and tidy, flavours were good also.

Will be back.
