Visited this restaurant yesterday but was disgusted with service and attitude of staff.

On finishing our meal plates were removed almost as soon as our forks were put down and tablecloth ripped off table as if they were trying to get rid of us.

One waiter also stretched over table to remove an empty glass whilst we were eating.

Customers seemingly are an imposition to staff at this eatery.

We wont visit again. We will go where we are made to feel welcome.

We also declined to tip.

We visited the restaurant at the trafford centre on saturday afternoon, 12th jan 2008, were shown to a table quickly and given the menus . They were dirty and shabby!

There were 4 of us and we ordered chicken and cashewnuts, childrens chicken nuggets, and two chow mein specials, along with a few starters.

The starters were quite nice, they had taste, even if they were a little greasy. Even though we clearly had a child with us, the staff brought out the childs meal LAST!

The meat left alot to be desired, the chicken was HAIRY, and the chow meins char sui pork was tasteless, chewy muck.

We were very disappointed in the meal and wanted to reflect that in the tip, therefore we paid the bill and no more extra. If the food and service was satisfactory, i have no problem in tipping, i mean , it's only fair. However, the visit was a complete shambles and why should we pay for the privelege?

I hope the staff and kitchens pull their fingers out as, it is a lovely setting and looks wise, the restaurant is nice. Please improve because you need to !

Terrible attitude of the manager when we visited recently. he said there was no record of our booking and Hi Life customers are not catered for on Fridays "from now" which is not the case as is shown in the directory and Hi Life said Fridays should be acknowledged and the manager said I was using last years directory which was wrong as it has 2006-2007 on its front cover. A complaint has been made to Hi Life head office about our shabby treatment - every other restaurant has welcomed us with upmost respect except Cathay Dim Sum in the Trafford Centre. You don't deserve to be in the Hi Life directory.

Very poor attitude and service from the manager on duty at the time and the member of staff at the enterance. No record of my booking 2 days earlier and being "fobbed off" even though I had the directory with me to say Friday bookings are accommodated. The manager said that the rules had changed "from now!" I have put a complaint in to Hi -Life Diners Club card about the shabby treatment my husband and I received on Friday evening

6th October and they are investigating on our behalf. This has never happened to us before and we have had no problems in any of the many hi-class restaurants we have visited. Please print this.

Last night,Friday,my husband and I visited Cathay Dim Sum at the Trafford Centre as i had booked a table for two on Wednesday 4th October. There was no record of this booking when we arrived at 7.30pm and the manager told me that i was referring to last years Hi- Life directory when I showed him in the directory that it is not mentioned that Hi-life bookings are not taken for Fridays and saturdays. I said that the person did not say this when he took my booking only went to check and said it would be O.K. and even explained how many courses we could have .etc.Unfortunately, I did not realise until i got home that the directory shows 2006-7 on the front, so I had evidence that the manager was wrong when he ad hoc accused me of using last years book! We were treated very shabbily and unprofessionally in front of lots of other customers and were turned away. I would like to make a note of our appaulling treatment and ask why the staff did not want to honour the use of the card. I was so upset ,we left the Trafford Centre and went to a restaurant not in the Hi-life directory. I don't know what went wrong as it was a traumatic experience and spoilt what I thought was going to be a pleasant evening. It is totally unacceptable and the restaurant is not worthy to be included in the directory if this is how their Hi-life customers are treated. treat

I've dined at the Cathay Dim Sum on numerous occasions - but no more! The food has really declined in quality. The meat is very low quality, chewy, fatty, and often inedible.

But, my main bone of contention is with the state of the actual menus and crockery - the menus are literally in tatters and sellotaped together, while the dishes are also well due for replacement. I am convinced they are the same menus from when the restaurant opened. They desperately need replacing - it really does give a cheap impression when the owners cannot provide clean and tidy menus.

On the positive side, the waiting staff are always very pleasant and efficient.

I found the service to be exceptional, from the moment we entered to the moment we left, the staff were courteous and welcoming. The food was also to a high standard and it was one of the best Asian restaurants I have been to in the area. As for the service charge, I do believe that people must make their own mind up, however as I always tip, I saw no problems.

I'm surprised by the other comments, we have only ever had fantastic food and service, sometimes had to wait for a table but you don't mind when the food is authentic and good!

Another warning: The staff said it's company policy NOT to provide tap water to customers when asked. We begged and pleaded, but still the answer was no. What's worse, we were then charged £3 for a litre of bottled water.

I'm concerned about one reviewers comments about service charge-- it said on the bottom of the bill that it was not included, and I also asked the waitress who said it wasn't included, so we left a tip!

I am writing a letter to the 'company' to see about their poor 'water policy'!
