The Barn

We visited the Barn on Saturdat 12 Sept 09. The red carpet welcome, food and ambience were excellent, however, initially we were left without a drink, two of our party couldn't find a starter they liked and on asking for something a little simpler we were told they couldn't be accommodated, our table was pointed to out to us rather than us being escorted to it, we had to open the wine ourselves, luckily it was screw top bottles, the waiter's were not knowledgeable about the dishes and our main waiter was illusive which was probably for the best as he was over familiar when he did show.

The barn is a truely amanzing place, its been converted to a very high standard, with no expence spared. The staff very attentive and the food.... was out of this world, the serive was amazing with out being over the top, the servcie staff all had a smile, we even met the chef, which was a real pleasure, he is a genius in his own right,

See you all again I hope.

The quality of the setting and work of the "backroom" team is let down by front of house staff. We've been 4 times over the last months and this has been the consistent story - so not just a case of an "off night".

The service is slow, tardy, often verging on the forgetful - last time we had to get up from the table to chase where things were after 45 mins. waiting for desserts! Waiting staff lack basic knowledge when quizzed about menu - one even asked who was having the chicken as they held a plate of duck!

When you take the time to write with feedback/complaint (following our last visit), you get no response, not even acknowledgement!

Really does seems like "style over substance" and a real shame when what's coming out of the kitchen is first rate.

Do they care? We won't be going back

Went here for the first time for my 53rd birthday.....I drive past everyday, on the way from Helsby.

Service was....slow, though not infuriatingly so (though having said this, the waitress was charming). The chairs were less than comfortable. The cutlery was more stylish than usable.

Everything else was excellent. The food was first class. This is by far the best restaurant in the area. The atmosphere was nice, and the slow service created an unhurried meal. The decor was well designed, if a little camp (and the men's toilet was something else).

We had a large, slow meal and it worked out at less than £50 each. In the light of the quality of the food and our heavy consumption of ethanolic beverages, this seemed reasonable.

I recommend this place, which I will be visiting again.

My husband and I had a lovely meal here after spending the day in Chester. We didn't book as it was a last minute decision to go for some food. We arrived quite early, around 6i sh as the staff were getting things ready for the evening. The atmosphere was great and the attention to detail can be seen through out the restaurant. The meal was probably one of the best meals we've had in a long time. Staff were very friendly and pleasant. The owner was also present, very welcoming and introduced himself to us. We would highly recommend this restaurant and will be returning hopefully sometime soon.

We went for our valentines meal on Friday the 13th and was not very pleased. Over an hour to get served as they did not write down our booking. Food took another 30 mins, then we were told our main course was not available. So excited to try as we live about a mile away but the whole experience was terrible. What a shabbles of a personnally prvate evening.
