Manchester’s finest gather at Rosso’s apparently... well from my experience they must be mad or have more money than sense! Bad service, cold food and a ridiculous wait to be served. One to avoid!

I went to Rosso to celebrate my anniversary with high hopes after reading reviews online but sadly the restaurant just didn’t live up to the hype. The waiters were rude at best and the food came out lukewarm. Not a great start but I was willing to give it another chance. The straw that broke the camels back though was not only forgetting my husband’s pudding but then charging us for it and complaining about having to remove the price and renew the receipt. Not good at all – I’m sad to say it failed spectacularly!

While the building itself is quite impressive the food unfortunately does not match. The calamari were overcooked and rubbery and the clams in the main course contained grit which was most unpleasant - needless to say I did not stay for dessert. As for the other review who stated as he is an Italian he surely knows best well so am I and I assure you if you think Rosso is a great Italian restaurant you seriously need to visit others to compare.

Well, I will start by saying I am Italian, so I believe I am in a pretty good position to judge an Italian restaurant. And, as every Italian, I am also pretty fussy with my food especially with Italian food outside Italy; hence why I am usually not very keen on trying Italian restaurants as they always let me down (San Carlo on top of all).
Well, I have to say Rosso hasn’t! I have been there few times and loved the food each and every time.
Got to say that going on a Friday or a Saturday might not be the best of ideas, especially if you like a quick service and / or tranquillity, as it gets very busy after 9pm. But the atmosphere & food make up for it.
Also I guess it is down to knowing what to pick from the menu: a friend recently complained about the “average” dessert; well cheesecake is not really a typical Italian dessert, might have been luckier if she tried Tiramisu.
But all in all, food is of excellent quality and PROPERLY Italian, unlike many other restaurants who sport recipes I can swear they are not Italian.
Fish is fresh and shipped every week (every Thursday,a waiter confirmed to me), as mains of meat are good portion and perfectly cooked.
They have also a very good wine selection and a glass of wine + 3 courses meal will set you off at about £50 /head, which I found an excellent price!
The bar is also pretty good and can be an excellent venue to start off an evening with a good aperitivo: one of the few places where they serve a decent prosecco and Martini orange.
All in all, The Best Italian restaurant I have tried in Manchester town.
