I always tip (and im pretty good) as i've done this work my self and know how hard it is.
But service charge thats optional???? We had to pay it... £6....not very optional. Couldnt believe it. Wouldnt mind if this was the best ever service i have ever had in my life. But it was " can i have ya order......wat drink.......food on table...plate taken.. Now were gonna rob ya blind.."...
Food was ok..well actually it was lovely. But im very sorry i say whether i tip or not.
Not them.
Do go but please dont forget your glasses : )

We had a birthday party at Dexters and despite stating that we are STRICT hindus that dont eat beef (as the waitress pointed out the burger we chose had pork in it and we had to correct her) when ordering we selected a chicken burger and upon arrival of this burger we were were given a beef burger which my sister accidently tried (as she didt realise) and thus she had a few bites of it by pure niaevity- however she knew it wasnt right and upon quierying it we were told it was beef and the kitchen made a mistake which left her devestated- as a consolation we were told we didnt have to pay for the burger - despite having to wait an extra ten mins for a chicken burger to be cooked (which wasnt as it said on the menu but instead two chicken goujons put in bread)
the chips were also cold and over al the meal was such a disappointment which was a real shame as we have been before and it was good food then and overall it ruined a birthday treat.

I ate at Dexters last week and I must say the food and service was great!! There was 2 of us and we had the Platter to start and I must say that the Chicken Wings are awesome. For mains we had a Jalapeno Burger and T-Bone Steak, we burger was great and the T-Bone was big and juicy. Highly recommend Dexters for a bite during your shopping or if you want a meal out then the cimema its worth a visit.

My friend and I went to Dexter's Bar and Grill for a meal on Friday 12th January 2007. She ordered chicken and I ordered pasta. Whilst my meal was bland and not very interesting, it was at least edible. The chicken, on the other hand, although it was hot, it was undercooked and the bone still attached. It was sent back to the kitchen. When it was returned it was still partially undercooked. My friend asked to see the manager as she wished to complain on the grounds she was pregnant and didn't want to eat the food in fear of food poisoning. The waiter was not happy but went to fetch the manager. One of the first questions the manager asked was "did you tell the waiter you were pregnant when you ordered?". Why should she??? Everyone is entitled to have their chicken cooked properly!!! The attitudes of both the waiter and the manager were inexusable.

I visited this place with my boyfriend and it was horrendous. The food was so average - I've had better at Wetherspoons - and the staff were lazy and very unhelpful even when we complained. And to top it all off - a 12.5% service charge was added!! Just don't go there!

We ate there recently with our youngest son and were pleased with the children's (organic) menu. However, we never got the soft drink refill we requested, nor was the dessert (included with meal) offered to him. Onto ours, husband's meal was OK but mine - the chicken satay - was undercooked and cold. It was returned to the kitchen but didn't come back much better. To my mind the chicken should hit the table baking hot, I wasn't prepared to risk food poisoning so most of it was left. For £8.95 I think, the offering of this and bland rice was uninspiring. Worst of all - having 12.5% service charge added to the bill (for three of us?) when I would have expected them to reduce it if anything. Service was moderate - we would have left the server a tip anyway but all in all we won't visit again and my comments on the service charge are winging their way to head office.

We visited Dexters on Tuesday in the early evening around 17:30. It wasn't busy and you could sit anywhere. The main area was really smokey so we sat just outside. I had the organic burger, what surprised me was how small it was and that the cheeze wasn't melted and the salad was a slice on tommato and a lettuce leaf.. The chips were 'just cooked' and could have done with a few more minutes cooking. I was starving and just got on with it. My wife had a salad with avodaco pear. The pear was hard and black underneath. This went back while her chips went cold. On request they provided another bowl. When we paid the bill we asked to speak to a manager. She did not appear to want any f/b and told us of all the repeat business they get....not from us I'm afraid, its off my list.

In a nutshell:
The starter we ordered - 'dip dip dip' came out with mouldy pitta - lovely - send that back and they replaced it quickly with uncooked pitta... mmm.mm...
Waited 40 minutes for our main course, in which time no-one came over to explain why it was late - only avoided eye contact and ignored us. Other people came and went. In the end we were that thirsty I literally had to jump on the waitress for her to take another drinks order.
The mains came - stone cold - send them straight back, by which time, in total over an hour had passed and we had a movie to catch in 10 minutes. Having not received an update about what was gong on we stopped the waitress again and asked if she could find out. She returned asking us if we would like some complimentary drinks, we aksed what the update was, she saied "I don't know, he just said it was done and offer them some free drinks" - charming. Considering we were drinking coke and had had two already, we politely declined.
We then had to leave the restuarant having had a half hearted apology from the manager, an unappealing starter, terrible service and being totally starving after a long day's shopping.
The staff have to realise that it is ok to make mistakes and that just by letting the customers know what is going on and not ignoring them, they feel much more valued.

I enjoy Dexters however...
The staff need to sharpen up on their uniforms. Most of them look as though they have just rolled out of bed and stumbled through the door. Many of the young ladies serving are wearing tight black trousers that pinch around their waists, with tops that look too short, so you can see that horrible roll of hip-fat hanging over their trousers. Not a good look. And for goodness sake - do your hair! The lads are a little better.
Secondly, the food is good but it worries me when they ask how you want your hamburger cooked! Having worked in the food industry, everyone should be fully aware that the only way a hamburger should be is cooked through - completely. Obviously England has not had it's E-coli deaths from restaurant food chains undercooking mince. Mince burgers are NOT steak. Someone's gonna get ill.
They could do with clearing off the tables in the bar area quicker and keep them cleaner in general. The bar area needs a good tidy up. The newest residents of the bar are tiny little flies that get in your face constantly. It's off-putting.
