Sunday, July 04, 2010 - It took 40 minutes to deliver a goat's cheese mousse with Parma ham and peas from the set price menu and a salad of black pudding, apple and soft-poached egg from the bar menu. They weren't bad. Nor were they great. There were broad beans in among the peas, which were chalky. The salad was too much underdressed frisee with crumbled black pudding. It was food. We ate it. We were hungry.

Overrated. Very expensive for what it is with tiny portions- in the current financial climate, they need to review their prices. Service was pleasant but patchy.

Had a meal here on thursday with their Manchester Confidential offer. We were very well looked after and the meal was really good value for money. A very pleasant evening and I already booked my next visit. Keep up the good work Obsidian!

A group of five of us dined at Obsidian and were REALLY impressed by the attentive, personable service and wowed by the chocolate souffles!

It was a girly night and we were well looked after at the bar by Tom and then spoiled in the restaurant by Nas and Merka (spelling?)- what a great team?! A really refreshing change to the array of snobby bars and restaurants in town. We'll be back for more of the same.

Around 60 of us had a meal here on 30th May 2009 (pre arranged) and were changed £23 per head which we thought was quite good value. It wasnt.

2 staff to serve nearly 60 people. around a third of the group were still waiting for starters when everyone else was finished. This proved to be the case with the main and deserts too. Not good enough. Portions were tiny. There were 9 on our table with one dish of chips (?????) and one dish of veg. We complained but was told that there was no money in the price for more veg. Of course, as a third of the table had to wait ages for their meal- there were no veg left when they eventually arrived. Complained again and got some undercooked chips between 4 of us. No one was happy.

We would have happily paid more for the meal to get enough food to eat.

To add insult to injury- it seems our "special price" was £3 per head MORE than the identical set menu we saw outside! Come on Obsidian- times are hard we know- but 60 potential customers wont be back with shoddy food and service like that. If you cant offer a decent deal at less than £40 per head you wont servive the credit crunch.

Came to the "NEW OBSIDIAN" last night for a meal with my wife and by-god was I blown away by the food. I have eaten in lots of michelin starred restaurants before and this was no different, everything was perfect, the menu, the service, the food. What a brilliant restaurant.

Obsidian is a great place to enjoy both food and cocktails. For taste, flavours and presentation the food is hard to beat and this is matched by friendly, efficient service. The cocktails are the best I have seen, and when I asked for something different the barman made something up for me that was superb. The price reflects the quality, but I have to say I love this place. Well worth it!
