Pan Asia

I've been to Pan Asia a number of times and I've never had a bad meal here. Great food, attentive service and good value for money (especially with the early bird offer of two courses with rice for £10!)

Three friends decided to go for a Chinese meal yesterday 18th September 2010 and went to my favourite the little Yan Sing in Manchester, as they had no free tables they recommended we went to their sister restaurant the Pan Asia which we did.
What a disaster and big mistake that was, no wonder they had room for a table of three!
The restaurant is designed to be trendy/modern with televisions everywhere and a water feature wall as you walk in, but very noisy and cramped but not a problem as many basement Chinese restaurants are.
I will just give one example as the whole meal/evening was a terrible experience.
We looked at the menu and decided to opt for the special set menu (3 courses) as it looked tempting with a good selection for £18 each, plus £3 extra each if you opted for the Crispy Duck and pancakes as a middle coarse which we did in place of the spare ribs.
The spare ribs are on the menu at £7.50 so by adding the £3.00 extra charge means you are paying £10.50 for the Duck as their were three of us, that made £31.50 we were paying for the duck. The duck on the menu is £29.00 for a whole duck, £16 for half, and £8.50 for a quarter.
What do you think we got? Well not even a quarter and that was so small, dry, burnt, cold and over cooked it was inedible.
We had to ask for plates and plum sauce, and wait for them, we complained to the waitress and got no where, asked for the manager and suddenly he could not understand English!
The main meals were also incorrect/inedible and poor to put it mildly. I could not eat/chew mine so left it.
Tables all around were complaining about service, food and the whole place seemed to be a total shambles, the staff were at best incompetent and then when we eventually got the bill they had added a service charge, we did not want to pay this, but given the problems it was agreed to just get out of the place, we had to go to the till to try and pay, after paying while putting our coats on, heard the next customer paying say, “and I am not paying for service we didn’t get any”
Stay away, go to little Yan Sing, or Wings this place is the worst experience I have had in Chinese restaurant for as long as I care to remember, a waste of nearly £90.

I went looking for an all-you-can-eat buffet in Manchester's Chinatown on the internet, so me and my friend's could go for a meal on Chinese New Year. It had a brilliant location, right on the square/car park, and was easy to find. The atmosphere inside was lovely and friendly and relaxing with a waterfall at the entrance.... Lovely!!! After waiting for a little bit (it was very busy as it was Chinese New Year) we got a lovely table in the heart of the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and took our drinks orders immediately before letting us indulge on the food. The food was wonderful!!!! They had all the tastes of Asia, even sushi, on one line of buffet! With everything from soup, duck pancakes and egg noodles to slightly more familiar foods like ice cream, rice and melon. After stuffing ourselves, the price seemed so impressive for the mounds of delicious food we had consumed. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I will definitely be returning!

Had to wait an hour for our food to arrive and once it did mine was cold and my partner got the wrong order. Quality of the food was average. During our wait staff appeared to take no notice when we asked several times where it had got to.
Our request for a reduction was meet with the service charge being removed. The £35 we paid in the end was a huge amount for the quality of food and service we received.
One to avoid.

simply the best chinese food I've had.
Simplicity combined with excellent quality - not more to it and no more needed.
try the rolls and the sliced duck in plum sauce with noodles. Better than any of the many chinese top scorers and reviewer favourites in my home town Copenhagen - where there's tons of chinese high quality restaurants.
