Tai Wu

I went to Tai Wu buffet restaurant on 44 Oxford Road in Manchester and I was charged £4.50 for my baby who is 2 yrs old. When we went to our seats I said to the waiter I do not need spoons for my baby as he will not eat anything she said that’s ok. A chair was not provided for my baby so he sat on my knees. We did not have a menu as it was a buffet meal. After the meal I went to pay and they added the extra charges to my bill. I ask what it was and they said whether my baby ate or not we have to pay for her also she took a bite out of her dad’s slice of cake. Is this legal? The food was good but they obviously watched over us because they say my baby take a bit out of her dads cake. Disgusted.

I love this place. I often go with a friend for lunch to the Buffet downstairs. £5.40 eat as much as you want in an hour and half. The food quality is fantastic. The waiters and waiteress are great don't hover over you but always ready to remove a dirty plate so you can go for more. I am pleased to say that I do not see plates left with loads of food on. The drinks are a little pricey but not over the top unless you buy the wine by the glass - £2.90 a glass - I don't buy wine in a pub so I am not sure if dear of not.
On the whole I would highly recommend this place and look forward to the days when I can get in at the resturant above.

I have eaten in nearly all chinese restaurants in manchester - this is by far the best food and fantastic value for money. You just need to know when to go and what to order.
Dim sum is half price every day between 12 and 4. If you go on a weekend at about 1 there can be up to 1 hour wait for a table. Just get a ticket and go to weatherspoons across the road.
Dim sum trolleys come around at weekends - but you can order off the menu.
Best to stick to dishes where you recognise the ingredients - if you don't you more than likely won't like it at all.
Price for 4 with wine and all we could eat was £40 - the wine was £12.

This is quite a good restaurant. The food is near the top of that available in the various Manchester Chinese places. Fu's in Faulkner Street is better (a true hidden treasure), Wings is better, and that's probably about it. Very good food, very attentive service, in my experience.
They seem to have different chefs for different types of cuisine. I have been particularly happy with the Sezchuan options here.
If you're going to the theatre or Cornerhouse Cinema it's hard to beat this place as it's just across the road from both and will give you a VERY nice meal.

A really good Chinese restaurant. Definitely the best in Manchester. A pretty big restaurant with lots of tables, nice and atmosphere. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food was gorgeous, really tasty and you got a good serving. The roast duck in particular was delicious and also the beef in chilli and garlic. Slightly more expensive than normal Chinese restaurants but worth the money. I definitely recommend this restaurant!

In general, I think the food served here is great. It is definitely one of the best chinese restaurants in Manchester. In regards to customer service though,it can be rather appalling at times. Also, some of them tend to rush you through your meal. This usually occurs in the day. The night staffs are surprisingly more welcome and friendly as I often pop in for a meal after a nite out.

In general, I think the food served here is great. It is definitely one of the best chinese restaurants in Manchester. In regards to customer service though,it can be rather appalling at times. The waiters/waitresses tend to assume that just coz you are oriental looking, you can speak or read chinese. Also, some of them tend to rush you through your meal. This usually occurs in the day. The night staffs are surprisingly more welcome and friendly as I often pop in for a meal after a nite out.

I've been there numerous times before going to the theatre, as it is conveniently close to the Palace Theatre in Manchester. I've also taken many groups, all who enjoyed the meal. They also do great buffet's downstairs at certain times. My only complaint would be in the main restaurant when its busy, you have to wait ages to be served and ages for your meal.

On the 15th of Dec 2007, I celebrated my 50th birthday at Tai Wu. I had a table of 6 n when we walked in there was no smile on the waiter`s/waitresses faces. We were ushered to a table n the next thing, a pot of chinese tea was served without even asking what type of chinese tea I preferred. Next was the ordering of menu. As I speak little CHINESE, I tried to explain to the waiter exactly what I wanted but the wrong food was served. I informed the same waiter who took the order n i told him about the wrong food n he wasn`t happy n argumentative . Later the correct food was replaced. After paying the bill, we didin`t get the chance to put on our jacket properly they tried to rush us out by changing the table cloth instantly. I don`t think I will recommend anybody as their service is not friendly n I think the management should look into sending their staffs into BOOT CAMP PRO training.

I think tai wu is the best restaurant in manchester coz it has great food. Just see its popularity in both Chinese and British. Because it's so excellent that you can hardly find a table in rush hour. The waiters and waitress provide good service while they are very busy. Although sometimes they are over-warmhearted to ask you whether you have finished over and over.
