When you return 2 out of the 8 starters for being burnt and four out of the eight mains for being poor I would easily state that the food showed minimal effort...
they did nothing to make a birthday feel special.
I wouldn't recommend this resturant to anyone for value for money, when you work in the industry you spot sloppy, poor, uncaring service and the response made to our complaints was shocking...
if you want to eat somewhere where a drinks order stops half way through because the waitress gets distracted or your wine glasses get taken off your table to be put on another, where the staff show a clear attitude problem...
... and the manager accuses you of drinking too much due to the complaints made (bearing in mind I only had one drink served to me throughout the entire meal) then this is the place to go!!!

We made a late reservation for a Sunday evening but upon entering the restaurant the Maitre d' ignored what I was saying and asked "table for two?" despite the restaurant being empty we were not asked where we would like to sit and were shown to the far end and seated next to a very noisy couple.
Before we could even sit down we were given a menu and asked if we would like drinks. We asked for a large bottle of water and the waiter returned with a small bottle of water. Within about two minutes the waiter asked if we had decided what we wanted to order which was clearly not enough time to browse the vast menu. We ordered bread and olives which were fine, also the chicken liver and duck pate which was quite nice but we also ordered the 'buffalo' mozzarella with parma ham and tomatoes; what they served us was not buffalo mozzarella, it was very poor quality bog standard mozzarella of supermarket quality (cut in half and slapped on some ham and tomato), as was the parma ham, the tomato was also supermarket standard, a tasteless watery beef tomato. Throughout eating our starter the waiter and the Maitre d' kept popping round the corner to see if we had finished, consistently and persistently without any discreteness whatsoever.
Before my partner had the chance to finish a mouthfull of food and place knife and fork in the centre of the plate the waiter sprang out and took away the plates. For main we ordered milanese veal and the pheasant, the veal was tasteless and lukewarm, this was served with spaghetti napoli, the sauce had separated and the spaghetti was overcooked. The pheasant was very tough and the sauce it came in was extremely salty and had a skin on the surface. Both meals had clearly been reheated. We were also given a small bowl of vegetables covered in grease and tasteless. The portions were huge and of horrifically poor quality. Avoid this retaurant.

If you haven't been to San Rocco recently - you've been missing out! And it may seem inappropriate to begin by raving over the desserts but this is the one restaurant serving desserts which are actually worth ordering and I would even go so far as to say, well worth blowing the calorie budget.. The menu gives the diner an excellent choice. Simple pasta dishes are delicious and inexpensive - or you can indulge in the best steaks and fish in the city centre at very reasonable prices. The friendly staff try very hard to please and service is efficient without being brusque. The clientele are somewhat younger here now than they used to be and the wrinklies seem to have moved on. A makeover has seen the back of the 80's laminate look and a pleasing, more cololurful decor has replaced it. Overall, I would recommend San Rocco for reliable good quality, great value for money and always a warm welcome.
