We visited Stock on a Friday evening as we had been recommended the Seafood platter at a pricey £24.00 per head.
Initially the restaurant was dark to the point that my parents had to read the menus by use the of the table candle and the four piece was so loud it was interferring with conversation.
The platter was ordered but was disappointing as it was bland, uninspiring and the calamari was so overcooked it was shameful) . The mains were ok but nothing special (the vegatables were poor and the food was not hot) and the desserts only served to improve the meal a smidgen. The problem with Stock is that the menu is unimaginative.
The overall cost of this meal was £224 with one bottle of wine and two rounds of drinks. I would expect a far higher standard of food when one is paying those prices.
I will not be attending again.

Slow service. The manager on duty was rude and extremely arrogant. The waiter was short. We had complained about the slow service and a meal that was poor. I have never met such an arrogant man in my life. I would not recommend this restaurant which is a shame because the food is very good on the whole.

Awful experience from start to finish and would never go back. A party of 8 of us went on a Saturday night and they somehow managed to get everything wrong. We waited 1 hour and 10 mins between our starter and main and then when our main did arrive it was wrong so people then had to wait a further 5 mins before they got their main. The waiter was good to be fair and i felt for him but the maitre dee was rude and dismissive. They offered us a discount which was laughable so we told them what we would pay and then left. We weren't the only table complaining on the night as there were some other large parties who were far from happy. Lovely building but lousy restaurant.

After much consideration I decided to take my partner to Stock to celebrate her birthday. Unfortunately the meal felt way below our expectations, with the food and service being nothing short of awful. The waiter was rude and invisible for much of the night. Simple things like clearing away glasses when new drinks were served seemed beyond him. Then came the food, my partner's dish, a piece of beef, was so overcooked it was almost black. I have never written a review before but the meal was so poor I felt compelled to.

We ate at Stock as a special treat on a Saturday night and the whole experience was fantastic! It was very busy in there and the service wasn't the speediest ever (we didn't find it too bad at all, but from what we could gather some of the larger groups of diners had quite a wait), however our waiter was very attentive and friendly! The food was delicious and the wine and champagne menu extensive... we had the a seafood platter from the special menu to start and it was amazing! One of the nicest dishes we have eaten in a very long time.. the main courses were excellent too -we had t-bone steak and pheasant and they were very large portions and beautifully presented! The atmosphere was lovely, really bustling and lively but not too obtrusive. It is quite pricey, but in our opinion, well worth it! We will definetly be going back!

We visited stock restaurant on Wednesday 23rd May, expecting to be one the finest dining experiences in manchester.
Although the service was excellent, the food was dissappointing.
The pasta dishes were very bland, tasteless and unimaginative. They were served warm rather than hot and required seasoning to make them edible.
Main courses consisted of duck, which was warmish and rubbery and the chicken which was completely ineddible. The potatoes were re-heated, the carrots warm, and the green beans very hot.
Given that there were only 4 other tables at the time we were being served we expected better.
We informed the restaurant manager of our comments after our meal, and he stated that if we come to stock again, if the meal is not exempliary it would be on the house. We will not be taking him up on his kind offer.

We paid our first visit to Stock last Friday when we were visiting Manchester to celebrate my husband's birthday. I cannot fault our experience. The service was attentive and friendly and the food lived up to our expectations. The only thing I could fault was the rather boring bread. What really made the evening for my husband was the excellent female vocalist who totally enchanted us. A truly classy act. We will certainly be visiting again and would recommend to our friends consider another visit

My girlfriend and I went here for a post Valentine's day dinnner. I've been before and found it OK but.. on this occasion it was far from it. I checked in advance that there were several vegetarian options to choose from for my better half, but when we were sat down with appetisers on the table, we discovered that there was in fact only 1. Although they offered to cook any of the pasta disjes 'without the meat', this is madness given then high number of vegetarians around. I've only ever walked out of two restaurants in my life without eating- and this was one of them. Unless you eat meat, don't go here.

I have eaten at Stock three times now - once full paying normal Friday night; twice with the times special offer (with the 'alternative' menu as was specifically stated in the offer [people really should read what an offer states before moaning about substandard menus!].
On each occassion the service has been wonderful and the food excellent. I did overhear the table next to us on the last occassion complaining about the food, but their complaints were totally unjustified as rather than the food being bad they did let it slip that the complainer had actually ordered the wrong meal, but then again people never like to admit when something is their fault these days, do they?
The atmosphere can be a little subdued at times due to the size of the main dining room, but when busy or when a jazz evening is on, the atmosphere is wonderful.
Stock can be a bit pricey, but believe me the food and experience are worth it ... and don't be surprised to spot the odd celeb in there (Alex Ferguson was in their last time I was).
PS : They actually don't mind if you simply turn up, sit at the bar and drink a coffee and leave!
