Shortly after my mother's death the immediate family (8 in total) gathered for Sunday lunch. We waited and waited for the food we ordered. By the time it arrived we had lost interest. Not somewhere we would return to.

Booked for 17 people for mothers birthday 12th Dec 06. Private rooms already booked so ate in main restaurant. Had a fabulous meal, service and evening, despite being so close to Christmas and the place was full.

Booked for 8.30 and seated just after due to us being late. Chose a great glass of Champagne with a starter of the most sublime smoked haddock risotto. 'A' had the salmon which he was also very pleased with. As we both chose dark, gamey meats for the main course, I ordered a lovely bottle of Fleurie which is always a joy to see on any menu and indeed, it didn't fail to please on this occasion. I chose the feathered steak, slow roasted - basically a pot au feu - it was so full of flavour. Finished off with a sharp apple crumble with custard in the bar area while 'A' had the brandy and coffee. A very discreet, professional service though one of the waiters was getting to that point where they think they own the restaurant!

I booked a table for 8 people 4 days before my birthday to ensure reservation, and was told that was fine as long as we arrived by 7.30pm and were out by 9.30pm. That was fine and we all arranged to be there at 7.30 despite travelling from north staffs, however, when we were still waiting for food at 9pm, we all thought this was a bit unrealistic, and we were absolutely starving!!! we spoke to the deputy manager, who did not apologise but said that the long wait for food was our fault for not ordering starters!! I can honestly say I have never met such a rude member of staff in a restaurant before, and hope never to again.

In this age of steep competition none of our party could believe how restaurants can afford to be so obnoxious. In short we felt shocked, disgusted, and suggest you send your staff on a customer service training course. Needless to say we will not be recommending le petit blanc to anyone.

I thought the food was great and very appropriate for a prime location in the city centre.
